Barnstaple Town Council has reached out to the digital generation by developing a new app.
The app, which is available on Apple’s App Store and Google Play, provides information for local residents and those visiting the town.
Alongside details of the council’s past and upcoming meetings, the app also includes its town guide, with details of notable sites in Barnstaple, sport and leisure facilities and car parks.
The app also allows users to report problems to the town council, and provides details of who and how to contact authorities for problems outside of the council’s remit.
Town clerk Will Austin believes the council is one of the first to launch its own app.
He said: “I think we’re probably in the first half dozen to have developed their own app in the country.
“The prime reason is to provide people with easier access to information, whether it’s about Barnstaple or the council, but we’re also really keen that people should engage with the council’s business.
“The app provides them with meeting dates, agendas and minutes, we would love them to use that so they can contact us with concerns and become more involved.”
