Barnstaple’s town clerk will be facing his fear of heights and leaping from 15,000ft for charity.

Acrophobic Will Austin will be completing a tandem skydive in aid of Over and Above’s appeal to build a new £1.5million cancer and wellbeing centre.

Mr Austin said: “I am absolutely terrified of heights and this is going to get my adrenaline pumping.

“The staff here at the council put my name forward and are helping me with fundraising for this very worthwhile charity appeal.”

Ian Roome, head of fundraising and volunteering at the charity, said: “We are immensely grateful to Will for his bravery in taking up this challenge as I know he is especially scared of heights.

“We want to encourage others to do this challenge for us and they can actually do it most days of the year.”
