Barnstaple Tidy Up Our Town gets under way

The town council’s annual fun blitz on eyesores and grot spots runs up until Saturday, June 16.

YOUNG and old will be out scouring the streets of Barnstaple during the coming days as part of the annual Tidy Up Our Town week.

Organised by the environment committee of Barnstaple Town Council and now in its fifth year, the event sees schools, local groups and businesses join forces to clean up the town centre.

Throughout the week teams will be picking up litter, clearing undergrowth and fly posting from Barnstaple streets.

It will culminate on Saturday at the Pannier Market with the Tidy Up Our Town Big Bash and Wellbeing Day from 11am-3pm.

There will be a variety of stalls, displays, food and drink plus entertainment including environmental theatre with a performance by Fanshen junk band plus a Recycled Fashion Show – celebrating the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in a creative, fun and educational way.

The Big Bash will also see the presentation of certificates for those who have taken part during the week, as well as the annual Eco Citizen award for the town’s top green champion.
