North Devon Council appoints officer to town centre role

Barnstaple's new Town Centre Manager starts work next month.

North Devon Council has appointed Hannah Harrington, who will take up the position from September 7.

She is currently a community development officer with the council and her new role will involve consulting with the business community to make improvements to the town, managing the Pannier Market and CCTV service.

She will also take responsibility for a number of events, including the Christmas lights switch-on.

Matthew Brend, chairman of the Town Centre Partnership, was involved in the recruitment process, said: "We're so pleased to have found a candidate who has fantastic knowledge of the town centre with abundance of energy to take the town forward.

"Hannah will be able to continue the great work of Craig Bulley, previous town centre manager, as well as bringing her own ideas to the table, some of which she has already shown during the interview process.

"On behalf of the Town Centre Partnership I would like to congratulate Hannah on her appointment and very much look forward to working with her."

Councillor Pat Barker, the council's lead member for the economy, added: "This is a great opportunity for us to revive the Town Centre Partnership and work with the town's businesses to develop a co-ordinated plan of marketing and other activity to promote the town centre and increase footfall and spend.

"Hannah comes with ideas, energy and experience of working with and co-ordinating multiple partners. I wish her every success in the role."

Hannah commented: "I am really excited to be taking on this new challenge and looking forward to working closely with local businesses to bring improvements to our town.

"As a resident of Barnstaple, I believe it is a fantastic town with a great community and lots to offer. However, there are also opportunities to further promote the town and improve our economy."
