ACCOMPLISHED and novice skateboarders will be given the chance to pick up tips from the pros at a special event being held in Barnstaple next week.

Top coaches from the Pro-gression Action Sports team will be running a three-day "skate camp" at Rock Park Skate Park from Monday, August 2-4.

They will be running six sessions for varying skill levels. Equipment, including skateboards and safety gear, will be available to use and the cost has been subsidised by local schools.

Mark Juby, the newly appointed chairman of Barnstaple Learning Community, said the event would give everyone the chance to have a go.

"I know the keen skaters in Barnstaple are really going to enjoy this chance to meet some top skate coaches, but hopefully it will encourage more young people to try out the skate park too as it can sometimes seem intimidating to a beginner."

The Skate Camp is being marketed as part of the North Devon Council's Supersport programme.
