ST John Ambulance teamed up with two Barnstaple's two Rotary clubs to offer shoppers free blood pressure tests as part of Stroke awareness Day on Saturday.

Although there are no symptoms to give a warning of an impending stroke, high blood pressure is often the first sign of a problem.

"Although the market didn't seem that busy we did a lot of tests," said Peter Spencer one of the medical consultants helping.

"The majority of people were fine although we recommended one or two to visit their GP after the weekend.
