A Barnstaple shop has been named the best Fairtrade retailer in the South West. Ethical trading shop Fairs Fair scooped the prestigious award at the South West Fairtrade Business Awards. The Bear Street shop, owned by Helen and Roger Durrant has won gold awards for the past two years and in 2012 was nominated by readers in the Gazettes Your Favourite Shop feature. It was established in 2004 and sells a wide range of Fair Trade products. Fairs Fair is staffed by volunteers and any profits are given to projects that encourage sustainable growth in developing countries. The awards were announced at a ceremony at the At-Bristol Science Centre to mark the culmination of Fairtrade Fortnight, held to help ensure farmers in developing countries are paid a fair price for the food they provide.
