A room dedicated to an incredible collection of shoes could see a Barnstaple woman win £1,000.

Barbara Wrenn’s shoe room houses more than 50 pairs of shoes in display shelving along one wall, and there’s even a plush chair to sit and admire them from.

The 47-year-old’s efforts have put her in the running to win a cash prize after she entered the MyBuilder’s MyRoom Award - a competition for surprising or unusual uses of space in the homes of the UK.

The idea was a simple one for Barabara.

“I was fed up of pulling out shoe boxes to look for the ones I want. The cheapest option was to do it like this, and I can just have them all on display,” she said.

“What was going to be shelving turned into a whole room.”

Barbara has worn all of her shoes in the room – most of which are Irregular Choice – except for one prized pair: a £500 set of Jimmy Choo shoes which she says she will never wear.

“I wear a lot of them to work and get lots of nice comments,” said Barbara.

“I’ve got a lot of favourites but it depends what mood I’m in really.”
