Barnstaples Town Centre Management team (TCM) has been praised by a government minister in the Great British High Street Awards. Team member Sue Rawle is among 13 people, ideas and schemes to receive a Special Recognition award from High Street Minister Marcus Jones. The award, for efforts to make Barnstaple a better place to work, live and socialise, was also judged by Simon Roberts, co-chairman of the Future High Streets Forum. The award comes as 2016 marks the 20th anniversary of the Barnstaple TCM initiative. Sues efforts included helping to create a safer night-time economy by working with night clubs and the police. She said: Im really happy to be given this award. Local people love coming to the town centre and Im really glad that by working together weve managed to highlight the importance of high streets across the country. Marcus Jones added: High streets are the life and soul of cities, towns and villages, but they rely greatly on the support they receive from an army of businesses, traders and volunteers. You and the other award winners are fantastic examples of the people that give their all - day in and day out to make our communities better places to live, work and socialise. Id like to commend you for your fantastic contribution and thank you for all your hard work.
