Funeral will be held next Monday

A well known and long-serving Barnstaple councillor has died aged 92.

Jim Bartlett served as councillor for the Whiddon Valley and ward for more than 40 years. An independent candidate, he became a member of the old Barnstaple Borough Council in 1960.

He served almost continuously, including on the district council and remained a town councillor until 2007.

He passed away peacefully on Friday, June 10 and his funeral will be held at North Devon Crematorium on Monday (June 27) at 11am.

The request is for family flowers only but donations are welcome to the Royal National Institute for the Blind (RNIB), at the service or c/o AG Simmonds and Sons Funeral Directors, Trinity Street, Barnstaple.

In November 2008, aged 84, Mr Bartlett stood for the town council after a two year break, and again in May 2011.
