The Rotary Club of Barnstaple Link working in partnership with the Rotary Club of Barnstaple, supported by the Over and Above Charity, have facilitated the procurement of a LUCAS chest compression system device for the Emergency Department at the North Devon District Hospital.
Meeting a need identified by Dr Oliver Dodd, the LUCAS chest compression system is to be used for performing external cardiac compressions on adult patients who have acute circulatory arrest.
The device will be especially helpful to the Emergency Department Staff during the Coronavirus pandemic when CPR is otherwise required to be performed in full personal protective equipment.
Ralph Gordon MBE, representing the Barnstaple Rotary Shop said: “When contact was made with Dr Oliver Dodd we felt that this piece of equipment will not only ease the tremendous pressure the A&E Department are under at the moment but could help save lives within the community of North Devon for years to come.”
