Childhood dreams are coming true at a Barnstaple pub, where marvellous Roald Dahl-inspired creations are being conjured up in cocktail shakers.Tuesday marks what would have been the authors 100th birthday, and to celebrate the Bull and Bear is selling some not-so-revolting recipes in his honour. Owner Matt Spencer will be selling four different cocktails based on Dahls stories from Monday next week. Perhaps youll try Georges Marvellous Medicine - a curiously tropical flavoured tipple garnished with cherries. Or maybe youll make like the food-stealing Fantastic Mr Fox and enjoy a glass of cider punch with Schnapps and whisky. The BFGs Frobscottle is a curious concoction of rum, malibu and blue Curacao topped with squirty cream and popping candy - just beware it doesnt give you whizzpoppers. And finally the showpiece, Wonkas Chocomallo Martini, made with chocolate milk, marshmallow licquer, and plenty of sprinkles. Matt said: All of us grew up reading Roald Dahl books or watching the films Theres nobody who doesnt know one of his stories. All of his books have some form of food references in it, whether its Mr Fox stealing all the food or the bird pie in The Twits. We thought wed give some of the favourites an adults twist and thats where the idea of the cocktails came about.Test the cocktails out for yourself at The Bull and Bear in Mermaid Walk, Barnstaple.
