A third full-school reunion of the Barnstaple Boys Secondary Modern School is taking place at Barnstaple Rugby Club next month.More than 100 travelled from as far afield as Los Angeles to attend similar get-togethers in 2015 and 2014 and organisers are hoping for as big a turnout on Saturday, June 11, from 7.30pm. Retired painter and decorator Gerald Thorne, 76, said he had already been contacted by two old boys who will be travelling from Australia and the USA. The reunion is open to all the old pupils who went to the school, said Gerald, who was a pupil from 1950 to 1955. It is always great to see so many old faces; Im not sure how much longer we can keep it going as we are not getting any younger. The school which was also known as Derby College and Blacksells Academy closed in the 1970s and is now Yeo Valley Junior School. Anyone with any old memorabilia or photos of their time at the school is asked to contact Gerald on 01271 345054.
