The 36-year-old is picking up the dumbells and working towards her bodybuilding stage debut at the Devon Expo in June.
A Landkey mother-of-two is donning a sparkling bikini and stepping onto the body-building stage for the first time this year.
Jane Borthen, 36, needed a ‘new challenge’ for 2016 and will be entering the ‘novice’ bikini category at the Devon Classic Expo in Bideford on June 18.
Jane, who started her training five weeks ago under the guidance of personal trainer Nicola Bennett at Floor One Fitness, said she is excited and nervous.
She said: “I did the Barnstaple Half Marathon in September and wanted a new challenge, something a bit different.
“I am enjoying the training so far; I’ve done a lot of cardio in the past so changing to weight training has been fun – it’s nice to keep doing something different.”
Jane said she hopes to be a role model for her two girls, Nina, aged eight, and Mariella, aged five, with the support of her husband Will.
“I want them to see me going for a goal I really want to achieve, and working out in the gym,” said Jane, who is launching a life coaching business this year.
“I think the nutrition will be the hardest part as I really enjoy my food.
“I am trying not to think about the bikini – it’s a bit daunting, but I am taking it one step at a time.”
Her trainer Nicola added: “Jane is doing really well so far.
“I have trained power-lifters but never anyone for bikini, so this will be a first time for both of us and getting to the stage will be a huge achievement.”
