BARNSTAPLE Mayor Jeremy Phillips will remain as council chairman for a second consecutive term after being voted as the Mayor Elect at a full council meeting last night (Monday).Cllr Phillips, who was opposed by Cllr Carl Williamson, won the vote by 11 to five. There were six abstentions.Councillors voted to retain the status quo at the council by electing current deputy, Cllr Ian Roome as the deputy Mayor Elect for a second municipal term.The two councillors will be officially sworn in at a mayor making ceremony on Monday, May 11.
