Open day at North Devon District Hospital on Saturday (July 2)

North Devon District Hospital in Barnstaple is holding its second maternity open day to promote services and options available to pregnant women and new parents.

It takes place in the Ladywell Unit reception area from 10.30am to 2.30pm on Saturday, July 2.

Midwives will be on hand to answer questions and provide information and advice about pregnancy, birth and looking after your baby.

Partner organisations including Virgin Health and local children’s centres will be in attendance.

Therese Chapman, the trust’s lead midwife for public health, community and antenatal services, said: “The open day offers a great opportunity to showcase the wide range of services and choices open to pregnant women and new parents here in Northern Devon.

“Visitors can gain a wealth of information about a whole host of subjects, including birthing options, feeding your baby, stopping smoking and the role of our supervisors of midwives in supporting staff and mothers and promoting high standards of care.

“There will also be opportunities to have a tour around Labour Ward.”

“We will also be promoting the work of the local Maternity Services Liaison Committee (MSLC) and inviting people to get involved.”

The MSLC is a group of people that commission, deliver and use maternity care who oversee and help to improve local services.

Anyone who is currently pregnant or has had a baby in the last three years can join the group and attend meetings to provide their first-hand experience of maternity services.
