Peter Edwards is undergoing a charity head and beard shave for Macmillan

A Barnstaple man is bidding goodbye to his close friend of 40 years when he goes under the razor for a charity beard shave on October 31.

Peter Edwards, 68, hopes to raise as much money as possible for Macmillan Cancer Support during a sponsored hair and beard shave being held at BHS in Green Lanes on Halloween.

It starts at 12.30pm and he hopes as many people as possible will go along on the day and make a donation, or sponsor him online.

Peter was inspired to help after his wife Sylvia's niece's husband was diagnosed with cancer and given only weeks to live. The couple have a son aged three.

"People have been generous raising money for them and I wanted to do something on their behalf for Macmillan," said Peter.

"At the end of the day it's only a haircut, though it's been a friend for more than 40 years - my wife will be able to see what she has been missing all this time!"

[The shave will be carried out by Luke from Blackmore Barbers in Barnstaple.
