MORE than 50 individuals and organisations turned out for the official launch of Barnstaple's Green Team.
The "encouraging" inauguration at the town's Guildhall featured presentations by young "eco-warriors" from Orchard Vale Community School and Yeo Valley Community School, as well as a talk by Dr Stephan Harrison, an associate professor of quaternary science at the University of Exeter, who talked about climate change and how it would affect the South West.
The Barnstaple Green Team initiative, being led by Barnstaple Town Council's environment committee, will help various groups, residents' associations, businesses, the police and schools to work together to share information and ideas on a range of environmental issues.
The Team will meet twice a year and produce a six-monthly newsletter where organisations in the town can share ideas, success stories and appeal for help with green projects.

Environment committee vice-chairman Cllr Rod Hawes said "At last the Green Team is up and running. The commitment from the audience on the launch evening was fantastic, particularly the contributions from the school children, who showed everybody what fun it could be to be green.
"The council's environment committee is greatly encouraged and will continue to build the team by engaging ideas that came forward on the night and the feedback that followed it.
