BARNSTAPLE will be taking further steps on the road to being officially recognised as the "greenest" town in Devon later this year.The town that held a second successful “Tidy Up Our Town” campaign in April, is preparing to officially launch its own Green Team in October.The Green Team will act as an umbrella organisation to encourage various green groups around the town to work together and share information and ideas.The initiative, being led by Barnstaple Town Council's environment committee, will involve police, residents' associations, Neighbourhood Watch groups, Barnstaple Town Centre Management, business and schools.Around 20 Barnstaple schools - most of which have their own sustainability groups - have already agreed to become involved.On Tuesday, environment committee chairman Cllr Rod Hawes will update councillors on the progress.Cllr Hawes will propose a Green Team pledge of "I'll do what I can, when I can, if I can.
