Conviction comes following council investigation

A Barnstaple man has been ordered to pay more than £1,700 following two fly-tipping offences.

Adam Riva, 28, from Coppice Close, pleaded guilty to the offences, both of which took place between August and November last year.

It follows an investigation by North Devon Council, after builders' rubbish and car parts were left on land at Victoria Lawn, with the second offence seeing more builders' rubbish left at Laburnum Drive.

Magistrates fined Riva £500 and ordered him to pay the council's costs of £1,252.

Councillor Rodney Cann said fly-tipping was unsightly, put peoples' health at risk and cost the council tax payer money.
