A Barnstaple flower grower has raised more than £500 to help young Ugandans out of poverty.

Jackie Rudman handed a cheque for £524 to Amigos, and said this year has been the ‘best yet’ for growing flowers.

She said: “This summer’s wonderful weather has been brilliant for growing British cut flowers and businesses in Barnstaple have been very supportive in buying my flowers.

“More and more business are interested in using British flowers in their offices and shops, coupled with an awareness of charitable giving which reaches to the heart of needs across the world.”

Jackie is already planning a larger growing area for next year.

Roger Bartlett, for Amigos, said: “There’s no doubt that Jackie’s work in her garden will impact the amount of food Ugandans are able to grow in their gardens thanks to training in conservation farming.”
