Barnstaple Carnival’s royalty has been selected ahead of the big day next month.

Organisers have selected the carnival queen, two princesses and two ‘mini royalty’ to lead this year’s procession.

Sophie Foster, aged 14, will be this year’s carnival queen after being selected at special royalty choosing event at Barnstaple Hotel.

She will be crowned before the main procession on Saturday, September 22.

Sophie will be attended by princesses Ruby Hedden and Ayla Piper, who are both 11 years old.

The mini royalty are five-year-old Lottie-Jane Wall and four-year-old Hazel Chaplin.

The five were selected from nearly 40 applications.

The queen receives prize money of £250, and the princesses each receive £100. The mini royalty also get prize money, receiving £25 each.

The crowning will take place at around 5.15pm on the day, with the procession at 6pm.
