Volunteers are being urged to come forward to help with this year's Barnstaple Carnival on Saturday, September 16.

The carnival committee is keen to hear from anyone who can help out and especially those who can serve as stewards, but anyone who can donate a few hours.

The parade starts at 6pm and the festivities continue until 11pm so help before and after is very welcome.

George Stacey from the committee said the job mostly entailed applying commonsense to oversee the parade and ensure the crowd stayed behind the barriers.

A children's procession sets off from the Strand at 3.30pm and the carnival queen will be crowned at 5.15.

The main parade forms up by the former Civic Centre and will head along Boutport Street, Belle Meadow and The Strand. A firework display will take place at 8pm.

The committee is made up of Barnstaple Lions and Rotary clubs as well as local businesses.

If you can help as a volunteer, call George on 07496 056136 or email George.Stacey@barnstaplecarnival.org.uk
