Police have charged five people from Barnstaple in connection with a break-in at a car rental store.

Police were called to the Metro Centre Car Hire in Mill Lane on Monday morning after reports of a break-in. Two cars, a Jaguar and a Vauxhall Corsa were allegedly stolen.

The two vehicles were located and returned to their owners. Officers have now charged five people – all from Barnstaple – following a number of arrests in connection with the incident.

Paulius Garbukas, 18, from Rock Avenue, Barnstaple has been charged with two counts of burglary and is due before Exeter Magistrates’ Court today (Wednesday).

Stephanie Mason, 18, from Roundswell, Jack Salmon, 18, from Rock Avenue, and Aiden Wardell-Lewis, 20, from Roundswell, have all been charged with three counts of theft of a motor vehicle, two counts of taking without consent, two counts of driving whilst disqualified and one count of criminal damage.

Mason, Salmon and Wardell-Lewis are all due to appear at North Devon Magistrates’ Court on Friday, September 28.

Jonathan Bowden, 30, from Crosspark Close, has been charged with two counts of possession of offensive weapon.

He has since been released on police bail and is due to appear at North Devon Magistrates’ Court on Friday, September 14.
