Returning for its third year, the Barnstaple 10k takes place on Sunday, July 7, starting from and returning to Park Community School. Being a largely off-road and flat course, it's an ideal race for beginners looking for a new challenge, whilst also giving more experienced runners a good chance at achieving a personal best. Last year some 360 runners took place, despite the heatwave conditions, and raised more than £8,100 to help local families. Entry cost is £20 and every participant will receive a finisher medal and t-shirt, with prizes up for grabs in each age category. Care for Kids charity manager, Jacky Massos, said: "We're really pleased with the success of our 10k race over the last couple of years and it's proved so popular it's now an annual fixture in the running calendar. "It's a flat course, so very accessible for new runners and with eight weeks to go, there is plenty of time left to train. "We would be so pleased to sell out again and raise even more money to support local families. Sign up today." There will be refreshments and entertainment on the day, and a prize-giving ceremony following the race. Anyone who wants to lend a hand can also volunteer to be a marshal or serve refreshments by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
