One of the UK’s largest independent producers of corrugated cardboard packaging is to halt production at its Barnstaple factory tonight (Wednesday) to allow staff to watch England in the World Cup semi-final versus Croatia

Jason Sharman, managing director Atlas Packaging said: “The England team has done so well in the tournament that it seems only fair that we allow our team at Atlas Packaging to support them. We’ll halt production of cardboard boxes to watch the game on our box in the canteen.”

England’s biggest game since the 1990 World Cup semi-final kicks off at 7pm on ITV1 when the evening production shift would be tackling their work.

But with millions set to watch on television, staff who were already booked on shift don’t have to worry about missing the game.

Mr Sharman added: ”As producers of cardboard we know all about performing well in the box so hopefully England will be just as good.”

Staff at Atlas have been enjoying more football related fun with the design team creating and building a solid cardboard five a side goal for some lunchtime kickabouts. Atlas Packaging produces corrugated cardboard packaging for many industries including brewing, horticulture and food and drink for firms such as St Austell Brewery, Asda, B & Q, Kinder.
