ATLANTIC Village in Bideford has achieved an ISO 14001 Accreditation, which is awarded to companies which demonstrate commitment to good environmental practices and management of day to day business operations. As part of the 14001 Accreditation process, Atlantic Village was audited by a certified external auditing organisation, which involved a thorough review of working practices, documentation and interviews with staff and onsite contractors such as security and cleaning staff, as well as a number of prominent retailers. To help achieve the 14001 Accreditation, Atlantic Village introduced a number of schemes to protect the environment which resulted in electricity consumption being reduced by 14 per cent in 2008 and an on-site recycling rate of 52 per cent of all waste produced in the same year. The 14001 Accreditation is valid for three years, with regular reviews. Jane McLeod, Centre Manager at Atlantic Village, commented, "We are delighted to have achieved the 14001 Accreditation. Everybody has worked really hard to do their bit for the environment and the results prove that it was all worth it. Atlantic Village is dedicated to protecting the environment and will continue to do so for years to come.
