Barnstaple man, 28, mised alcohol with medication before punching police officer three times.

A Barnstaple man who pleaded guilty to assaulting a police officer when he 'mixed alcohol with new medication' has been given a conditional discharge.

Keir Peter Osborne, 28, of Charles Hudson Lane had been drinking alcohol at a christening at Barnstaple Town Football Club on July 19, and was not allowed back in after leaving to get some air.

He was arrested for being drunk and disorderly, and taken to his mother's house.

He then assaulted a plain-clothed officer when they came to the address, punching him three times.

Osborne has a serious heart condition and had just changed his medication, the court heard.

Magistrates believed this was 'something out of the ordinary' and granted him the discharge. Osborne will pay £200 in criminal court charges and compensation.
