Police are investigating alleged historic sex offences at a former North Devon boarding school.

Former employees and students of the now-closed Ashleigh Court boarding school in Chawleigh, between 1970 and 1980, are being urged to come forward.

It comes as police confirm they are investigating alleged non-recent sexual offences against a girl at the school.

Detective Constable Rob Poole, from Devon and Cornwall Police, said: "We are in the initial stages of a complex investigation relating to offences which occurred at Ashleigh Court Boarding School in Chulmleigh between approximately 1970 and 1980.

"We appreciate that this was quite some time ago and we are doing all we can to help the victim.

"We are wanting to speak to anyone who worked or studied at this school during this time period in the hope that they would be able to assist us with our investigation."
