BIDEFORD'S Asda rolled out the red carpet for a flying two-wheeled visit from the company's chairman Andy Bond.

The supermarket chief stopped by the store for a well-earned breather during his bid to cycle from Land's End to John O' Groats, part of the company's efforts to raise 2million for the Tickled Pink breast cancer charity through its Pedal Power campaign.

Mr Bond and three head office colleagues battled against driving wind and rain and a "rollercoaster" of hills as they made the tough trip from the Bodmin store last Tuesday morning.

The riders were soaked to the skin on arrival in Bideford but were given a rousing welcome by store manager Andy Felix and staff, Mayor Philip Pester, and local television personality Merlin Cadogan, who took time out from his busy schedule at the Milky Way adventure park to perform a number of stunts for the visitors - including balancing the chairman's bike on his chin!
