Helicopter rotor blade sculpture will form permanent part of base’s memorial garden

A Knowle artist has been commissioned by the Royal Marines to produce a memorial sculpture to mark the departure of 22 Squadron at RMB Chivenor.

Jonathan Rodney-Jones is currently producing the artwork, which will form a permanent part of the base's memorial garden.

A rotor blade stood into the ground will feature a central panel made from aircraft grade aluminium showing a Sea King helicopter flying over a stormy sea.

It will also detail the two crew fatalities connected with the squadron during its time at Chivenor.

See next week's Gazette for the first pictures of the 22 Squadron artwork.
