POLICE are investigating a series of arson attacks on homes at East-the-Water, Bideford, over the weekend.Nine incidents on Friday and Sunday nights were mostly bizarre attacks in which house door bells were set alight, some also causing damage to door framesOn Friday night firefighters received calls from concerned residents reporting fires involving the front door bells of six properties at East Ridge View and Chudleigh Avenue.A hedge was also set alight in East Ridge View and rubbish in an alleyway in Barton Tors.Two fire crews from Bideford and another from Appledore dealt with the incidents.Bideford firefighters were called out again on Sunday night to a property in Barton Tors and another in Gammaton Road, where door bells and door frames were again damaged by fire.Police have searched the area with the help of a dog and have taken witness statements from local residents.They are also appealing for anyone who may have been in the area at the times and may have seen anything suspicious to contact them.Spokesman PC Baxter Provan said: "Fortunately these fires were small and quickly contained, but any offence of arson has the potential for serious consequences."Anyone with information should call Bideford police on 08452 777444 or the confidential Crimestoppers line on 0800 555111.
