A 43-yearold man has been arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life following an incident in Bishops Tawton on Thursday evening.
Police were alerted to an incident taking place between a father and son which resulted in one of them arming themselves with what is believed to have been a shotgun.
A police spokesman said: "One party fled the scene with at least one report of shots being fired.
"Police swiftly began a search of the local area which involved a number of officers including the police helicopter, dog units and armed officers.

"A 43-year-old man is currently in custody at Barnstaple police station. He was detained around two hours after the original incident started and no force was required to detain the man. The other party is also safe and well. The police investigation is ongoing.
