Firearms officers and helicopter called out after man alleged to have a knife in the town centre.

ARMED police and a helicopter were called to reports of a man with an alleged knife in Holsworthy town centre last night (Saturday).

A local man in his 30s has been arrested and remains in custody following the incident at around 6pm.

Police said one person was treated at the scene for minor injuries, but in a statement denied anyone had been ‘shot or stabbed’ after some suggestions of this on social networking sites.

“We can categorically confirm that this was not the case and we would like to reassure the local community of our continued proportionate response to such calls from the public,” it added.
