Barnstaple's High Street branch of Argos will close in July.

A 'digital store' will replace the High Street branch inside the town's Sainsbury's in Roundswell.

The new store will open on July 22, a day after the High Street store closes.

The company anticipates all staff will transfer to the new store. The outlet in Rose Lane is not affected.

The new Argos will offer thousands of products for immediate pick-up, as well as 20,000 products which can be ordered for collection or home delivery.

It comes after Sainsbury's acquired Home Retail Group, which owns Argos, in September last year.

Sainsbury's Barnstaple store manager Leigh Nicholls said: "Sainsbury's has been a part of the local community for a number of years and we are really thrilled to welcome Argos and its team to our store.

"The new shop is great for customers, who are looking for easier, more convenient ways to shop.

"We're looking forward to feedback from customers about the increased range and offer."

Sainsbury's say the new store is 'equipped for shopping in the digital age', with tablets that 'mirror the online shopping experience'.
