The 2018 event saw entrants vying to see who could catch the most clawed-critters as part of the Appledore and Instow Regatta.

In total the 62 teams caught in excess of 420 crabs, but the Dave Hocking Cup and Sandy Brown Plate were taken by the Pavitt family, from Appledore with 72 crabs caught from their lines.

The Trapnell family from Bideford scooped second place with 43 crabs, and the Evans family took the bronze with a total of 37 crabs.

Hope and Lydia Halsey were also presented with a painted pebble, for the prettiest crab.

Honorary regatta secretary Peter Reveley said: “It was great fun, a good crowd and a lovely evening.

“Most teams were visitors, though the three winners were all local.

“Overall it’s been a brilliant regatta and the weather has been kind to us.
