Appledore held its first Christmas Lights Switch On event on Friday evening.

The switch on was a culmination of an afternoon of festive events, including craft workshops, choirs, and the Johns of Appledore Christmas window reveal.

Niki Tait, of Appledore Visitor’s Association (AVA) said: “Appledore has been campaigning for Christmas lights for many years, and for many years the AVA have run the Appledore Christmas Festivities with the turning on of our own ‘DIY’ lights.

“This began in a way as a protest but over the years has grown to become a highlight of the year in Appledore’s social calendar and heralds the start of Christmas in the village.

“However, finally, with the assistance of Northam Town Council, Appledore is achieving its objectives of not only having proper Christmas Lights, but also a return of the year round festoon lighting along the Quay.”
