Appledore has waited many years for its festoon lighting, and now it will be celebrating with a big Christmas switch on this week.

Appledore will be having its first Christmas lights celebration this year, after the long-awaited festoon lighting.

The Christmas lights will be turned on this Friday by the winner of the new Appledore Visitor’s Association (AVA) Appledore Community Service Award, sponsored by the Beaver Inn, and the winner will be announced on the night.

The switch on is part of the AVA Appledore Christmas Festivities which include a fair at noon in St Mary’s Hall, and songs by the village school in Appledore Village Hall at 2pm.

At 3.45pm Johns will be revealing its Christmas window, and other activities include a village treasure hunt, late night shopping, Every Pantomime There Ever Was at Appledore Hall at 4.45pm, and church bells at 6.30pm.

The lights will be turned on at around 7.15pm at the Churchfield car park end of the Quay and there will be carols on the Quay at 7.20pm, or the Baptist Church if weather is bad.
