Police said the 12-year-old girl was walking home from school when a man approached her at the Gorwell end of Bear Street.

Police are appealing for information after a girl was approached by a man while walking home from school in Barnstaple.

The 12-year-old girl was walking along Bear Street towards Gorwell estate with her friend on Wednesday, April 27 between 3.20-3.50pm.

She separated from her friend as they reached Sunflower Road but once separated, police said the girl was approached and grabbed by a man at the Gorwell end of Bear Street.

A police spokesman said: "She struggled and the suspect left the area. The girl was not harmed.

"The suspect is described as wearing a black hooded jacket or cardigan and black jogging bottoms with elasticated bottoms. He was around 5ft 6ins tall."
