Police are appealing after a man was found lying on a road in Hartland in the early hours of the morning with serious head injuries.
Mystery surrounds the circumstances as police say it is unknown how the 40-year-old man was injured.
He was found on the road at Harton Cross at around 2am on August 14, following Hartland Carnival.
The man was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to North Devon District Hospital.
He was discharged following surgery and now police are appealing for anyone who might have seen the man that night to contact them.
DC Terry Hodgson, of Barnstaple CID, said: “We are aware that there was a large number of people in the village during the carnival which was a very enjoyable community event and I would urge anyone who may have any information regarding how this man was injured to contact me at Barnstaple police station.”
