Police are trying to track down two men who allegedly attacked a 57-year-old victim on a country lane at night.

Police are appealing after a 57-year-old man was injured in an attack on a country lane near Westleigh on Saturday.

The man was a passenger in a car which had stopped at a junction near the Westleigh Inn at around 10pm.

He had got out to walk down the road and look for the inn when he was approached by two men in an oncoming vehicle.

Police said an altercation then took place which resulted in the man receiving a cut to his lip which needed stitches.

The offenders are described as having northern, possibly Geordie, accents.

One is described as being in his 40s and the other between 45-49-years-old.

One was wearing a plain dark t-shirt, and the other a light jacket.

Police are asking members of the public to get in touch if they saw anything or can offer any assistance at all.
