A national gym chain has confirmed it will be opening in Barnstaple if planning permission is granted.

Yesterday, the Gazette revealed plans had been submitted to convert the former Barnstaple High Street Argos store into a 24-hour gym.

And today (Tuesday) national 24-hour fitness franchise Anytime Fitness confirmed it had signed a lease on the 7,000 sq ft space.

If plans are approved, the gym is set to open in January next year.

Anytime Fitness Barnstaple club owner Steve Jenkins said: “State-of-the-art strength training and cardiovascular equipment will be offered and we look forward to being the number one fitness club in the area.

“Certified personal trainers will also be available to help you energise your workout and challenge your limits.

“And best of all, when you join one club, you join them all, because your access key will give you access to any club worldwide.”

Anytime Fitness currently has 156 clubs open throughout the UK and Ireland.

Using a security access key, members can use the club at the time.
