Local UKIP members are angry after Vote Leave signs around North Devon were destroyed and defaced in a series of attacks. Signs near Barnstaple hospital, Saunton Sands, Chivenor, Berrynarbor and Blackmoor Gate have all been hit in recent days. The sign near the hospital was completely smashed, while another was changed to Vote Beaver instead. The phenomenon has gone viral with reports of Vote Beaver signs popping up all around the country in the countdown to the June 23 EU referendum. North Devon UKIP member and chairman of the national fisheries committee Bob Gotts said it just showed the sort of limitations of their intelligence. Mr Gotts said it had been reported to the police as criminal damage and trespass, since all the signs were erected on private land with the permission of the landowners. He said he did not know if it was an organised campaign or random vandalism. We put a lot of time and effort into putting these boards up and somebody comes along and wrecks them, he said. If they have an issue they should take it up at the ballot box. The Vote Leave campaign has boards up, nobody else has theres no sign of any effort on their part. Its just mindless really, but we are used to it, we have had it over several elections. We will just keep on replacing the signs where necessary and its only a couple of weeks to go.Click here to return to our homepage for more North Devon news.
