THE first members of the brand new First Chivenor Scout Group have been formally sworn in at its inaugural get-together.Young people living in the Chivenor and Braunton areas now have extra opportunities to step into a world of fun, activities and adventure as Scouts or Cubs.The First Chivenor Cub Pack meets on Mondays at Southmead School in Braunton from 6.45 to 8.15pm, for boys and girls aged eight to 10 years.Group Scout Leader Ken Beevers said they hoped to introduce a Beavers section for the six to eights, too."It was a pleasure to be present at our special investiture evening to hear Joe Challis, our very first Scout and 13 Cub Scouts all make their promise to our experienced Cub Scout Leader Dave Clements," he said.District Commissioner Mike Hedges presented Group Scarves to all the leaders present, while Ken did the same for group chairman John Rendle and all the new Cubs. He thanked the Rev David Coppard for presenting opening and closing prayers.Anyone interested in joining the new Scout Group, including any adults who wish to get involved as Leaders, is invited to call Ken Beevers on (01271) 813917.
