Barnstaple man, 40, pleaded guilty to two shoplifting offences but said he has now been ‘dry’ for two months.
A couple who started an ‘underground’ eatery in their back garden are opening a restaurant in Barnstaple.
Monty’s Caribbean Kitchen will be opening its doors in Tuly Street on September 17.
Husband and wife team Angelina and Patrick Montague, who met in London before moving to North Devon, wanted to share their love of Caribbean food.
As interest grew they purchased a catering truck and since 2013 have been trading at a pitch in Roundswell.
And when the vacant cafe came on the market, it was a family tie which clinched the deal.
“My dad runs Cassie’s Army and Navy Store which was formerly in this shop – in fact, I grew up in the house upstairs,” said Angelina.
“It’s always been Patrick’s dream to have his own restaurant and here we now are.
“We’re hoping to offer takeaways on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights to start, as well as lunches.”
