Airport cash helps Burton Gallery project

CASH from the sale of Exeter International Airport is being used to improve facilities at Bideford's Burton Art Gallery and Museum.A new display case costing �5,055 is to be provided by Devon County Council to accommodate the RJ Lloyd ceramic collection. The airport money is being channelled through the local projects fund administered by Bideford East County Councillor Hugo Barton. The overall cost of the Burton improvement project is �500,000 with the remainder of the funding coming from the National Lottery Heritage Fund and the museum.Councillor Barton said: "The RJ Lloyd ceramic collection is of great importance to Bideford and indeed the wider Devon area, and its acquisition for the town was a great coup. I'm really pleased to be able to support it with the purchase of one of the display cabinets and hope that many people from far and wide will take the opportunity to visit the Burton to see this collection, along with all the other treasures in the gallery."Diana Warmington, the vice-chairman of the Friends of the Burton Art Gallery & Museum, said: "We are most grateful for the funding from Devon County Council's airport money, - through the auspices of our local representative, Cllr Hugo Barton. This will be used towards the cost of display cases for the prestigious R J Lloyd Ceramic Collection. We look forward to seeing the collection shown to advantage in Bideford's Burton Gallery for all to see in the not too distant future.
