Barnstaple Age Concern has urged people and businesses to get behind its campaign to raise £25,000 to save the service before it is too late.
So far, £4,950 has been raised thanks to councillor grants from Barnstaple Town Council plus another £2,225 from the online JustGiving page.
With Christmas nearly here, the charity wants to raise awareness of the plight of loneliness for the elderly in the town.
Director Andrea Scott said: “Please help us to help them, loneliness is not just at Christmas.
“Support our services so we may continue to reach out to our elderly with comfort and companionship when it is needed.
“The youth is our future, the elderly our heritage and wisdom.”
The charity helps around 220 vulnerable elderly people each week, and their carers.
