Academy primary plans classroom expansion

Newport school wants to demolish temporary classrooms.

PLANS to extend a Barnstaple primary school have been submitted to North Devon Council.

Newport Community School Primary Academy has applied for planning permission to demolish temporary classrooms and build six new teaching rooms that will form part of the main body of the school.

The school was built in the mid 1980s and originally had capacity for up to 250 pupils. Expansion during the last 25 years has increased capacity to 500 pupils, although there is no intention to increase numbers as part of the application.

The temporary buildings are said to be nearing the end of their designed life and the school is looking to improve current arrangements and provide a permanent base for the younger members of the school.
