A section of the A39 near Clovelly will be closed for just over two weeks for essential maintenance, starting from next week.

Drainage improvements, resurfacing and pavement reconstruction will be carried out on a one kilometre stretch of the route, from west of Bucks Cross to Downland Cross, starting on Monday (February 19).

The official diversion will be signposted and takes drivers from Bideford via Holsworthy to Stratton to rejoin the A39 – a distance of some 26 miles.

Devon County Council says the work has been planned to start immediately after the school half term holiday, and is scheduled to be completed on Wednesday, March 7, ahead of the Easter period, subject to weather conditions.

The 26 miles diversion route will be signed via A39 Bideford, A386 Landcross, Holsworthy, A3072 Stratton and A39.

Access will be maintained to properties located between Bucks Cross and Downland Cross during the closure.
