With a new look and a packed programme there really is something for everyone at this years Ilfracombe Victorian Celebration. Nine days of events, spectacles and activities open on Saturday, June 11 and organisers say there are plenty of news ideas among the old favourites. New artistic director David Alexander says it will be a week to remember: Theres something for everyone. Even if you dont want to dress up and do the Victorian thing, you will find theres a lot to amuse residents and tourists alike, he said. An opening parade sets off from the Candar on the Saturday at 2.30pm, making its way to the seafront for the Mayors Garden Party at Runnymede Gardens. The event climaxes over Saturday and Sunday, June 18-19 with Mr Alexanders Gala Weekend, including Steampunk Day dedicated to the popular Victorian science fiction genre on the Sunday. There is an open air ceilidh on the seafront on Friday and fireworks on Saturday, as well as magic lantern shows, ghost tours and guest-of-honour Charles Dickens will be there in person.
